The Bullwinkle field, about 150 miles (241 kilometers) southwest of New Orleans in the Gulf of Mexico, is located on Green Canyon Block 65. It is positioned in 1,353 feet (412 meters) of water and lies in the Pliocene-Pleistocene level. Currently, it produces 4,000 boep/d. Dynamic Offshore Resources LLC serves as the operator of the leases, holding a 49% interest; Superior Energy Services holds the remaining 51% interest.
The discovery well was drilled in October 1983 on Green Canyon Block 65. Bullwinkle TLP developed the field, and production officially began July 1989. In February 1996, Shell decided to expand the platform to accommodate more production.

The discovery well was drilled in October 1983 on Green Canyon Block 65. Bullwinkle TLP developed the field, and production officially began July 1989. In February 1996, Shell decided to expand the platform to accommodate more production.
Bullwinkle TLP
The current processing capacity of the Bullwinkle TLP is 20,000 boep/d.
The 1996 facility expansion added about 4,000 tons (3,629 tonnes) of equipment and piping. At the time of construction, it was the world's tallest offshore drilling platform - it weighs 78,000 tons (71,000 tonnes) and stands 1,651 feet (503 meters) high. Bullwinkle was designed to withstand hurricane winds, massive waves and stress-reversals produced by small waves. The structures legs are 120 feet (37 meters) and 54 feet (16 meters) in diameter (rolled steel plate) and the cross bracing is 48 feet (15 meters) in diameter.
This $500 million platform took 12 tugboats and the construction of the world's largest barge to haul Bullwinkle offshore. Two additional subsea fields, Manatee and Aspen (BP operated) were constructed and connected to the platform in 2002. Other fields connected to Bullwinkle are Angus, Arnold and Lorien. Droshky will also be tied to the field, expecting production start-up in 2010 or 2011.
Gulf Marine Fabricators contracted the design, transportation and installation of the jacket structure. Waldemar S. Nelson & Co. Inc., Petro-Marine Engineering Inc. and Petrotec Inc. engineered the structure; Bay Inc. provided fabrication; Houma Industries, Inc. provided module fabrication; Production Management Industries Inc. provided generator station fabrication; Seco Industries Inc. provided electrical fabrication; John H. Carter Co. Inc. did instrumentation and electrical installation; Ingersoll-Dresser Pump Company provided pumps; Solar Turbines Inc. installed rotating equipment; Reily Electrical Supply Inc. provided electrical equipment.
Satellite Fields
Droshky
Located on Green Canyon Block 244 in deepwater Gulf of Mexico, Droshky is situated in 2,900 feet (884 meters) of water about 137 miles (220 kilometers) southwest of Venice, Louisiana. Previously named "Troika Deep," Droshky is wholly owned and operated by Marathon Oil.
Drilled in April 2007 by the GSF Celtic Sea semisubmersible, the Droshky No.1 discovery well measured a total depth of 21,190 feet (6,459 meters) and intersected 250 feet (76 meters) of net oil pay. After encountering high-quality oil-bearing reservoirs, two sidetrack wells were immediately planned to commercialize the discovery.
The first was a downdip sidetrack well, which intersected more than 600 feet (183 meters) of net oil pay. The second was a lateral sidetrack well, which encountered 300 feet (91 meters) of net oil pay. Both wells were drilled by Transocean's Henry Goodrich semisub. Another delineation and sidetrack well were drilled in 2008 to further define the field. With reservoirs in the Upper Miocene levels measuring 30-32 degree API, Droshky reserves are estimated at 80 to 90 MMboe.
Production from the field commenced on July 19, 2010. The field is expected to produce at a peak rate of about 45,000 net boepd, down from the original rate of 50,000 net boepd.

Droshky Field Ramps Up Production
Type: Status Update
Sep. 2010 - The Droshky development has ramped up production to about 45,000 net barrels of oil equivalent per day, consisting of approximately 39,000 barrels per day of liquid hydrocarbons and 39 MMcf/d of natural gas. The satellite development consists of four wells tied-back to the third-party Bullwinkle platform. According to Marathon, three of the four wells are currently producing at better-than-projected levels, while production from the fourth well was delayed due to an equipment issue. In the first quarter of 2011, Marathon plans to re-enter the fourth well to make necessary repairs. The field is now expected to produce at a peak rate of about 45,000 net boepd, down from the original rate of 50,000 net boepd. Located on Green Canyon Block 244 in deepwater Gulf of Mexico, Droshky is situated in 2,900 feet (884 meters) of water about 137 miles (220 kilometers) southwest of Venice, Louisiana.

Droshky Comes Online in GOM
Type: Production Start
Jul. 2010 - Production has commenced from Droshky, and the oil and gas field is expected to produce about 50,000 bopd at its peak, consisting of nearly 45,000 barrels per day of liquid hydrocarbons and 30 MMcf/d. Droshky was developed as a subsea tie-back consisting of four wells connecting to the third-party Bullwinkle platform by dual, 18-mile (29-kilometer) flowlines. At a final development cost of US $900 million, the initial stage of development is expected to produce 35 million of the estimated 60-million boe net resource. Future expansion of the project and ultimate total recovery largely depends upon well performance. At year-end 2009, Droshky held about 26 MMboe of proved reserves. Located on Green Canyon Block 244 in deepwater Gulf of Mexico, Droshky is situated in 2,900 feet (884 meters) of water about 137 miles (220 kilometers) southwest of Venice, Louisiana. Marathon wholly owns and operates the Droshky field.

Superior Energy Acquires Bullwinkle Assets from Shell
Type: Status Update
Feb. 2010 - Superior Energy Services obtained ownership of Shell's GOM Bullwinkle platform and related assets. Superior will plug and abandon 29 wells associated with Bullwinkle, and decommission the platform at the end of its economic life - Shell will compensate Superior upon successful decommissioning (amount undisclosed). Superior has sold a 49% interest in the assets to Dynamic Offshore Resources, LLC, which will now serve as the operator of the field. Installed in 1988, Bullwinkle is the deepest fixed-leg production platform on the Outer Continental Shelf, producing roughly 4,000 boep/d and serving as a processing hub for third parties. Located 150 miles southwest of New Orleans in the Gulf of Mexico on Green Canyon Block 65 in 1,353 feet (412 meters) of water is the Bullwinkle field, which currently processes 20,000 boep/d from four subsea fields. In mid-2010, an additional oil and gas field is expected to commence production through the hub.
