Project Description
North El Burg was awarded to BP Egypt in June 2005 and is located in the central part of the Nile Delta between the Ras El Barr, BP-operated development concession and the Offshore Baltim development concession operated by IEOC. The concession covers 483 square miles (1250 square kilometers) of shallow water ranging from 197 to 328 feet (60 to 100 meters) deep.

In late August 2012, gas discoveries were made in Taurt North and Seth South. These are the fourth and fifth discoveries made by BP in the concession following Satis-1 and Satis-3 Oligocene deep discoveries and Salmon-1 shallow Pleistocene discovery.

BP Egypt is committed to drilling no less than one well and to spend a minimum of $23 million USD on exploration activities during the first three years of the concession. The parties to the North El Burg Offshore Concession agreement are the operator, BP and the equal partner, IEOC each with 50% interest.

BP Discovers Gas in Two Fields in the North El Burg Concession
Type: New Discovery

Aug. 2012 - BP Egypt announced the discovery of gas in both the Taurt North and Seth South fields in the North El Burg offshore concession, Nile Delta. Satis-1 and Satis-3 Oligocene deep and Salmon-1 shallow Pleistocene were previous discoveries made by BP in this same concession. The stakeholders in the North El Burg Offshore Concession are the operator BP and its partner IEOC, each holding a 50% interest.

BP Egypt announced the discovery of gas in both the Taurt North and Seth South fields in the North El Burg offshore concession, Nile Delta. The Scarabeo 4 (mid-water semisub) drilled both the Taurt North for Seth South wells for IEOC on behalf of the concession operator BP in water depths of 361 feet (110 meters) and 256 feet (78 meters), respectively. Presence of gas was confirmed by wireline logs, pressure data and fluid samples in one Pleistocene interval in Taurt North and in two Plio-Pleistocene intervals in Seth South. Studies are being conducted to determine options for tying both discoveries to a nearby existing infrastructure.

Seth South
Discovery (Drilled) - Aug 27, 2012 to -

Drilled by the Scarabeo IV semisub in water 78 meters deep. The wireline logs, fluid samples and pressure data confirmed the presence of gas in two Plio-Pleistocene intervals.

Taurt North
Discovery (Drilled) - Aug 27, 2012 to -

Drilled by IEOC on behalf of concession operator BP, using Scarabeo IV rig in a water depth of 110 meters.
