Description

The Nunya prospect lies in the Keta block offshore eastern Ghana, which spans an area of 1.3 million acres (5,500 square kilometers). Eni operates the block with a 35 percent stake; while Afren holds 20 percent; Mitsui holds 20 percent; and GNPC holds the remaining interest.

Afren has encountered thick and high-quality water-bearing reservoirs in the Nunya-1x exploration well in the Keta block. The objective of the well was to explore a large four-way dip closed Upper Cretaceous prospect.

The well intersected 502 feet (153 meters) of very good quality sandstone reservoirs, however they were interpreted as water bearing. The well was drilled with the Transocean Marianas (DW semisub) to a total depth of 14,928 feet (4,550 meters) in a water depth of 5,535 feet (1,687 meters).

Eni Ghana Spuds Nunya-1X Well Offshore Ghana
Date: Feb. 2012
Type: Drilling Operations
Eni Ghana has spud the Nunya-1X well, formerly called Cuda-2, using the Transocean Marianas (DW semisub) offshore Ghana. The Nunya prospect is a four-way dip closed structure with a primary reservoir target comprising Upper Cretaceous deep-marine fan sandstones that are analogous to those that have already yielded significant discoveries elsewhere along the West Africa Transform Margin, said Afren.

Exploratory Drilling - Jan 26, 2012 to Mar 15, 2012
Afren announced Monday that the operator of the Nunya-1X exploration well on the Keta block, offshore Ghana, has begun drilling. The Nunya-1X (formerly called 'Cuda-2') well is being drilled using the drilling rig Transocean Marianas (DW semisub).
