Project Description
A discovery, Vampira, was made on BM-S-48 Block in the Santos Basin, Brazil on July 31, 2009. Repsol serves as the operator and holds a 40% interest; Petrobras holds 35%; Vale holds 12.5%; and Woodside holds the remaining 12.5%.

Vampira is located 124 miles (200 kilometers) off the coast of Sao Paulo and was discovered by Transocean's Sovereign Explorer semisub in 459 feet (140 meters) of water. Two samples were taken at depths of 15,863 and 15,879 feet (4,835 and 4,840 meters), which confirmed the presence of light petroleum and gas. Initial tests will be conducted to determine the quality and quantity of hydrocarbons present in the well.

Vale Takes Bite of Vampira Discovery Offshore Brazil
Type: New Discovery

Jul. 2009 - Vale confirmed the existence of hydrocarbons in the exploration well Vampira, located in the BM-S-48 block, in the Santos basin, Brazil. Drilled by Transocean's Sovereign Explorer semisub, the Repsol-operated Vampira is located 124 miles (200 kilometers) off the coast of Sao Paulo state in waters some 459 feet (140 meters) deep. Two samples collected at depths between 15,817 and 15,883 feet (4,821 and 4,841 meters) indicate, in a preliminary analysis, the presence of light oil and gas. The results are not definitive and it is still too early to estimate the total discovered volume of hydrocarbons, for which the necessary tests have not been concluded.

Repsol YPF Finds Signs of Oil, Gas at Vampira Well Offshore Brazil
Type: New Discovery

Jul. 2009 - Repsol found new signs of oil and gas at Vampira, a well located in the Santos basin off Brazil's Sao Paulo state. The discovery was made in block BM-S-789, which is operated by Repsol YPF. Vampira is located just under 124 miles (200 kilometers) off the coast of Sao Paulo state in waters some 140 meters (459 feet) deep.
