Project Description
The Te Giac Trang oil field is located offshore Vietnam, in the northern part of Block 16-1 in the Cuu Long Basin some 62 miles (100 kilometers) southeast of Vung Tau in waters measuring 148 feet (45 meters). Hoang Long JOC, a partnership compromising PetroVietnam, Soco International, PTTEP and OPECO, operates the field; Soco holds the remaining 50% interest.

In 2003, Hoang Long JOC discovered the TGT field when oil and gas flowed in the Miocene sandstone reservoir in the TGT-1X well. Five years later, a total of seven exploration/appraisal wells were drilled in the field, with an average flow rate of roughly 11,300 barrels of oil equivalent per day from each well.

The Te Giac Trang oil field is located offshore Vietnam, in the northern part of Block 16-1 in the Cuu Long Basin some 62 miles (100 kilometers) southeast of Vung Tau in waters measuring 148 feet (45 meters). In 2003, Hoang Long JOC discovered the TGT field when oil and gas flowed in the Miocene sandstone reservoir in the TGT-1X well. Five years later, a total of seven exploration/appraisal wells were drilled in the field, with an average flow rate of roughly 11,300 barrels of oil equivalent per day from each well.

Following the success of several drill stem tests performed and the reserve assessment report, the Vietnam Government confirmed the field as a commercial discovery. Furthermore, the Ministry of Industry and Trade approved the development plan for the field on September 21, 2009.

Field Development

The field's development consists of several wells connecting to two wellhead platforms, and for oil to be exported to an FPSO. Gas will be exported to the nearby Bach Ho (White Tiger) platform.

On Nov. 20, 2009, a $700 million contract was awarded to Bumi Armada Berhard and Vietsovpetro for the provision of an FPSO for the field's development. The FPSO is equipped to handle 45,000 bopd with a storage capacity of 1 million barrels. The work scope of the contract required Bumi Armada to install, hookup and commission the FPSO.

Shortly after, Bumi Armada Berhard awarded a contract to Keppel Offshore and Marine Limited to upgrade and convert a Suezmax tanker into an FPSO. The work scope included refurbishment and life extension works; fabrication and installation of accommodation blocks, turret support structure and topside modules; upgrading of auxiliary support systems; and installation of owner supplied equipment. The conversion work commenced in the second quarter of 2010, and the facility was completed in the second quarter of 2011.

In April 2010, J. Ray McDermott received a transportation and installation contract by PTSC for the Te Giac Trang field development project. J. Ray transported and installed two wellhead platform jackets, topsides (including two drill decks, a main deck and helideck/electrical house), infield pipelines (including tie-spools and a pin-piled pipeline end manifold), and a subsea isolation valve. The work commenced in the third quarter of 2010.

The field commenced production on Aug. 22, 2011. Production from TGT is expected to plateau at about 55,000 bopd and gas production will be about 30 MMcf/d.

Te Giac Trang Partners Moving Forward with H5 Development
Type: Development Activity

Sep. 2014 - Soco International and the Hoang Long Joint Operating Company continue to focus on gaining regulatory approval for the development of additional oil and gas resources discovered in 2013 at the Te Giac Trang (TGT) field in Block 16-1 offshore Vietnam. The additional volumes are trapped in Oligocene and Miocene sands located in the H5 fault block. A Reserves Assessment Report was approved in June and the partners plan to submit an H5 Field Development Plan by the end of 3Q 2014. Construction of the H5 wellhead platform jacket and topsides has been completed and offshore installation began in August with completion expected near the end of September. Once completed, 5 initial development wells will be drilled using the Naga 2 (350' ILC). Production startup is scheduled for 2H 2015.

Te Giac Trang Well Test Confirms Robust Resource Base

Oct. 2013 - SOCO International announced the results of a production test conducted on the TGT-10XST1 well which was recently drilled at the Te Giac Trang field off Vietnam. The well cut through over 800 feet of pay in Oligocene and Miocene reservoirs. Three zones were evaluated during the test which was carried out over one Oligocene and two Miocene sections. Testing achieved a combined average flowrate of 27,600 boepd. The well is one of the most prolific ever drilled off the coast of Vietnam.

Soco Updates Te Giac Trang 10X Results

Aug. 2013 - Drilling operations at the most recent Te Giac Trang (TGT) development well are complete. Well TGT-10X was drilled to a measured depth of 13,864 feet and encountered approximately 383 feet of net pay in Oligocene and Miocene reservoirs. The TGT-10X well was drilled by the Naga 2 (350' ILC) in the H5 fault block which is the most noteworthy un-drilled fault block in the TGT field. A testing program is underway involving a test of the Oligocene section and two tests across on the Miocene section. The Oligocene test is in progress and has achieved flow rates of 6,179 bopd and 1.13 MMscfd.

SOCO Considers Options with High Pressure TGT Well

Jul. 2013 - Standard Drilling's Naga 2 (350' ILC) has reached 13,864 feet measured depth in the TGT-10X well being drilled in the Te Giac Trang field offshore Vietnam. The rig has encountered higher than expected formation pressure necessitating an unplanned liner to be run over the Miocene and Oligocene reservoirs in the well. SOCO International, the field operator, is considering drilling the remainder of the well using a 6-inch bit to reach the target depth of approximately 14,534 feet once logging operations are completed.

SOCO International Turns to the Right at Te Giac Trang

Jun. 2013 - SOCO International announced the spud of the TGT-10X step-out appraisal well in the H5 fault block of the Te Giac Trang (TGT) field in the Cuu Long Basin off the coast of Vietnam. The well is being drilled in block 16-1 by the Naga 2 (350' ILC) in 147 feet of water. It is the first well of a 4-well drilling program to be carried out in the TGT field this year. Roughly 30 days have been allotted to reach the proposed depth of 14,435 feet. The Hoang Long joint-venture operates the field with a 69.5% interest while SOCO holds the remaining 30.5%.

TGT Partners Successfully Test Increased FPSO Capacity
Type: Operator Update

Apr. 2013 - SOCO International reports the completion of the initial stages of increased capacity testing onboard the Armada TGT 1 FPSO on station in the Te Giac Trang (TGT) field offshore Vietnam. Minor modifications to the vessel allowed a production rate of more than 60,000 bopd. The next phase of testing is expected to commence in June 2013 to determine the upper production limits of the FPSO.

Soco Updates Te Giac Trang Appraisal Plans
Type: Operator Update

Feb. 2013 - The Te Giac Trang (TGT) field in block 16-1 off Vietnam is currently producing between 52,000 and 55,000 bopd from 16 production wells – in line with pre-production expectations. Soco International, 50% partner in the field, announced that three or four infill appraisal wells will be drilled in 2013. Based on an evaluation performed by RPS Energy Consultants, Soco feels the appraisal program could add a maximum of 152 million barrels to the original Stock Tank Oil Initially In Place (STOIIP) estimates. Field recovery rates of 45 to 50% could also be achieved.

PTTEP: Oil Production at TGT to Hit 55,000 BPD

Jul. 2012 - PTTEP reported that oil production from the offshore Vietnam 16-1 project will hit 55,000 bopd by the fourth quarter of this year due to the successful installation of a second wellhead platform. Oil production at the Te Giac Trang (TGT) field, where the newly installed wellhead is sited, is currently at 41,000 bpd. The TGT field is located off the southern coast of Vietnam, 62 miles (100 kilometers) from Vung Tau province. The project consists of a floating, production, storage, and offloading unit, two wellhead platforms and a subsea pipeline system. The development came online in August 2011.

TGT Development to Ramp Up Production by Year-End

Oct. 2011 - SOCO International has commenced development drilling in Phase II of the Te Giac Trang project offshore Vietnam. The operator has spud the first well at the H4 wellhead platform using the PV Drilling I jackup, and plans to drill at least five wells following the batch setting of surface casing strings. The wells are scheduled for completion in August 2012. The Armada TGT-1 FPSO is currently producing oil at a rate of 30,000 bopd while the wells are being tested and baseline reservoir management information is taken, stated the operator. Plans are underway to start the second set of perforations and production is expected to increase to assess the total processing capacity of the FPSO by the end of the year. Gas is being exported through a pipeline to the nearby Bach Ho facilities for processing and transportation to shore via the existing pipeline infrastructure. Oil output from the development should plateau at a rate of 55,000 bopd and maximum gas production will be about 30 MMcf/d. EnerMech Performs Leak Testing Services on TGT FPSO

Sep. 2011 - EnerMech has completed a pre-commissioning engineering, pipework reinstatement and leak testing services contract, on behalf of DOF Subsea, for the TGT field development project in the Cuu Long Basin. The work entailed the supply of materials, equipment and personnel to perform subsea hydrostatic leak testing on four flexible production risers, a water injection riser and two flexible gas risers. The TGT field is located in the northern part of Block 16-1 in a water depth of roughly 148 feet (45 meters), and is operated by Hoang Long Joint Operating Company.

SOCO International Commences Production at TGT

Aug. 2011 - SOCO International has commenced production from the Te Giac Trang field offshore Vietnam. The field was developed by an FPSO, two well head platforms (H and H4 areas), and a subsea pipeline system. Crude oil from the TGT field will be transported via a subsea pipeline system to the Armada TGT 1 FPSO to be processed, stored and exported via shuttle tankers to regional oil refineries. Gas will be transported through a pipeline to the nearby Bach Ho facilities for processing and transportation to shore by an existing pipeline infrastructure for further distribution. Production from TGT is expected to plateau at about 55,000 bopd and gas production will be about 30 MMcf/d. EnerMech to Perform Leak Testing Services on TGT FPSO

Jul. 2011 - Bumi Armada has commissioned EnerMech to provide leak testing services on the Armada TGT 1 FPSO, which is undergoing renovation at the Keppel Shipyard in Singapore. The company will perform gross air leak testing, nitrogen helium leak test and leak repair services onboard the TGT 1. The FPSO will deploy to the Te Giac Trang oil field in Vietnam's Cuu Long Basin, and should commence production in 3Q11. The TGT field is located in the northern part of Block 16-1 in a water depth of roughly 148 feet (45 meters), and is operated by Hoang Long Joint Operating Company.

Hoang Long Continues to Develop TGT Field Offshore Vietnam

Mar. 2011 - Hoang Long Joint Operating Company has completed four development wells and has started drilling an eighth development well on the Te Giac Trang (TGT) field. The four wells, TGT-4P to 7P, were drilled in "batch" mode rather than drilling each well sequentially, stated the press release. Preliminary anaylsis indicates that the wells have confirmed the reservoir model. All wells are being suspended as producers and will come online in August 2011. Production is expected to plateau at 55,000 bopd during the first phase. The operator is now focusing on the TGT-8P well, targeting the central area of the H1.2 fault block, near the TGT-1X discovery well. The well will take about 30 days to drill and complete. Once development work is completed, start-up of installation operations for the in-field pipelines and the FPSO will commence. SOCO Completes 3rd Development Well on TGT Field

Dec. 2010 - SOCO International has completed the third development well on the Te Giac Trang development, offshore Vietnam. Preliminary log analysis of TGT-H1-3P has indicated that the well found the top of the targeted reservoir horizon. Currently, four additional development wells are being "batch" drilled, and the reservoir section for all four wells will be drilled in 2011, stated the operator. The wells are being suspended and will come online as producers in mid-2011. Production from this phase of development is estimated to flow at a rate of 55,000 bopd. Two Development Wells Completed on TGT Field

Oct. 2010 - The first two development wells on the Te Giac Trang field were completed. Preliminary log analysis of the first well, TGT-H1-1P, drilled as a “twin” of the original discovery well, implies it encountered the top of the targeted reservoir horizon. The second well, TGT-H1-2P, encountered the reservoir section about 33 feet (10 meters) higher than anticipated. Reportedly, this supports the structural reservoir analysis that the TGT field extends to the east. Both wells will be suspended, and then become producers once the field commences production in mid-2011. The production rate is estimated to be 55,000 bopd during the first phase of development. Keppel to Convert Tanker into FPSO for Te Giac Trang Field

Mar. 2010 - Keppel Offshore & Marine Limited will upgrade and convert a Suezmax tanker into an FPSO for the Te Giac Trang (TGT or White Rhinoceros) oil field. Once completed in 2Q11, the FPSO will be able to produce up to 45,000 bopd and store 1 MMbbls. Te Giac Trang is located on Block 16/1 in the Cuu Long Basin, Vietnam, which is operated by Hoang Long. First oil from the TGT field is targeted for mid-2011.

Sep. 2009 - SOCO was informed by the Hoang Long Joint Operating Company, operator of Block 16-1 in the Cuu Long Basin offshore Vietnam, that the Ministry of Industry and Trade, on behalf of the Vietnamese Government, has approved the Development Plan for the Te Giac Trang field. First oil from the TGT Field is targeted for mid-2011 and tenders for a number of long lead items are already under evaluation. A contract for the FPSO is currently being finalized. To date, seven exploration/appraisal wells have been drilled in the TGT Field, with an average oil and gas flow of approximately 11,300 boepd from each well.
