Project Description
The Vito prospect is located on Mississippi Canyon Blocks 984 and 985 in the Gulf of Mexico in a water depth of 4,206 feet (1,282 meters). Shell serves as the operator and holds a 55% working interest; Anadarko holds a 20% working interest; and Statoil holds the remaining 25% working interest.

On June 8, 2009, Anadarko submitted an Exploration Plan to the Minerals Management Service (MMS) for the Vito prospect. The plan proposes to drill and complete one well at surface block MC984 (BH - MC940) location H. On July 29, 2009, a discovery was made at Vito. An appraisal well, located more than 1 mile from the discovery well, encountered more than 600 net feet (183 net meter) of high-quality oil pay in Miocene sands. The Noble Jim Thompson semisub drilled the sidetrack appraisal well to a total depth of roughly 31,000 feet (9,449 meter) in approximately 4,050 feet (1,234 meters) of water.

The operator is currently drilling an appraisal well to further delineate the discovery.

Shell to Appraise Vito in GOM

Jan. 2012 - Shell is on location at Mississippi Canyon Block 940 to drill the No. 2 appraisal well on the Vito prospect. The operator is using the Noble Danny Adkins (UDW semisub) to drill the well. Drilling should take about 145 days. The discovery is located in 4,206 feet (1,282 meters) of water.

Shell Submits Plan to Appraise Vito

Aug. 2011 - In August 2011, Shell submitted a supplemental exploration plan to appraise the Vito discovery in Mississippi Canyon Blocks 984 and 985. The plan calls for drilling to occur on well locations I, J and K. The wells will be drilled and temporarily abandoned. Shell plans to use the Noble Danny Adkins or similar rig in the Mississippi Canyon area. Drilling activities should take about 145 days per well. The discovery is located in 4,206 feet (1,282 meters) of water. Shell serves as the operator and holds a 55 percent working interest; Anadarko holds a 20 percent working interest; and Statoil holds the remaining 25 percent working interest.

Shell Drills a Successful Appraisal Well on Vito Field

Mar. 2010 - The Vito appraisal well encountered more than 600 net feet (183 net meter) of high-quality oil pay in Miocene sands. The Noble Jim Thompson semisub drilled the sidetrack appraisal well to a total depth of roughly 31,000 feet (9,449 meters) in approximately 4,050 feet (1,234 meters) of water. Located on Mississippi Canyon Block 940 in the Gulf of Mexico, Vito's appraisal well is situated more than 1 mile (2 kilometers) from the discovery well. The operator is planning to drill another sidetrack appraisal well in 2010 to further delineate the discovery. Shell serves as the operator and holds a 55% working interest; Anadarko holds a 20% working interest; and Statoil holds the remaining 25% working interest.

Nov. 2009 - The Noble Jim Thompson spud an appraisal well at the Shell operated Vito prospect on Mississippi Canyon block 984. Vito was discovered mid-2009 by the Noble Amos Runner on MC 984 encountering more than 250 net feet of oil pay in subsalt Miocene sands. Shell holds the majority 55% working interest while Statoil holds 25% and Anadarko 20%.

Sep. 2009 - The Noble Jim Thompson semisub rig is slated to spud an appraisal well at the Vito discovery on Mississippi Canyon Block 984 in early 2010. The Vito discovery was made in July 2009 on MC 984 in a water depth of 4,205 feet (1,282 meters). Shell is the operator and holds a 55% working interest. Other interest holders are Anadarko (20%) and StatoilHydro (25%).

Sep. 2009 - Statoil and Anadarko have designated Shell Offshore Inc. as the operator of the Vito discovery covering Mississippi Canyon blocks 984 and 985. Shell maintains its 55% working interest. Statoil holds a 25% interest and Anadarko 20% interest.

Anadarko Hits Paydirt at Vito in Deepwater GOM

Jul. 2009 - Anadarko made a discovery at the Vito exploration well on Mississippi Canyon block 984. The well encountered more than 250 feet (76 meters) of net oil pay in subsalt Miocene sands. The Vito well was drilled to a TD of approximately 32,000 feet (9,754 meters) in 4,038 feet (1,231 meters) of water, using the Noble Amos Runner deepwater drilling rig. Anadarko operates the Vito well with a 20% working interest. Co-owners in the discovery include Shell with a 55% working interest and StatoilHydro with a 25% working interest. Shell will assume operatorship of Vito after rig release on the current well.

May. 2009 - Anadarko provided an update on the Vito prospect exploration well on Mississippi Canyon Block 984 in the GOM, located in 4,038 feet (1,231 meters) of water. The Vito exploration well is a middle-Miocene test and has a projected total depth of 30,500 feet (9,296 meters). Anadarko is the operator with a 20% working interest, along with Shell (55% WI) and StatoilHydro (25% WI). Shell will operate after the exploration well has been drilled.

Feb. 2009 - The Noble Amos Runner semisubmersible rig spudded an exploration well on the Vito prospect February 18, 2009. According to RigLogix the rig will be on location through mid May. Anadarko is the operator of the Vito prospect which is located on Mississippi Canyon Block 984, in water depths of 4,038 feet.

Feb. 2009 - The Noble Amos Runner semisubmersible is scheduled to drill and exploration well at Anadarko's Vito prospect located on Mississippi Canyon Block 984. According to RigLogix, the spud date is scheduled for February 26, 2009 and is expected to take 28 days to drill.
