Sterling Completes Fourth well on Cladhan Discovery
Type: Appraisal Operations

Jun. 2011 - Sterling Resources has completed drilling a fourth well on the Cladhan discovery in the UK sector of the North Sea. Well 210/30a-4X, drilled by the Transocean Prospect semisub, was designed to further appraise the extent of the Cladhan reservoir. It was drilled in the most southern limit of the northern core area in a potentially separate channel. The objectives of the 210/30a-4X sidetrack well were to core the full reservoir section about .6 mile (1 kilometer) south and approximately 60 feet (18 meters) up-dip of the oil bearing 210/30a-4 well, and evaluate the southern fringe of the northern core area. The well was drilled to a total measured depth of 10,614 feet (3,235 meters) encountering 171 feet (52 meters) gross, 105 feet (32 meters) net of high-quality Upper Jurassic sands. Nearly 180 feet (55 meters) of core was recovered across the full reservoir section. Sterling stated that generally, the reservoir quality is very good with porosities of up to 25%, substantiated by measurements obtained while taking fluid samples. The implication of this information is that the southern fringe of the northern channel area is in communication with the central channel, being distinct from the main reservoir in the northern channel area. The operator will suspend the well for use as a potential future development well at this location or elsewhere after a sidetrack. Development options include either a subsea tie-back or FPSO development of the main northern core area with further definition of reserves and resources during the company’s next drilling campaign.

Sterling Completes Cladhan Appraisal well
Type: Status Update

May. 2011 - Sterling Resources announced that appraisal drilling in the Cladhan well 210/30a-4y has outlined the extent of the overall Cladhan play within the license. "Although the over-pressured nature of the reservoir suggests there may be remaining prospectivity up-dip from the current Central Channel well, this would likely need to be the subject of a future drilling campaign," stated the company. "This well and the previous 210/30a-4z deep well in the fan area have not impacted on the established Cladhan discovery. However, the results start to limit the upside potential on the license as a whole, and suggest that the Cladhan field is likely confined to the Northern Channel belt area and an area up-dip of the deep fan well." The 210/30a-4y well was drilled as a sidetrack into the Central Channel prospect which lies to the south of the current Cladhan discovery. The well encountered two Upper Jurassic reservoir sand sequences with a gross true vertical thickness of 191 feet (58 meters) and a net of 40 feet (12 meters) TVT. Log pressure data indicate the sands are water wet. The consortium plans to carry out an infield survey and a pipeline survey to determine how to best develop the Cladhan discovery. The Cladhan field is located on Blocks 210/29a and 210/30a in a water depth of 1,634 feet (498 meters). Serving as operator of the field is Sterling Resources, holding a 39.9% interest; EnCore holds 16.6%; Wintershall holds 33.5%; and Dyas holds the remaining 10%.

Sterling Reaches TD in Cladhan Appraisal well
Type: Appraisal Operations

May. 2011 - Sterling Resources has reached a total measure depth of 15,900 feet (4,846 meters) in its Cladhan appraisal well 210/30a-4z in the UK sector of the North Sea. The appraisal well was drilled as a sidetrack to evaluate the Upper Jurassic sands, about 1,000 feet (305 meters) deeper than the 210/30a-4 well. The well encountered two separate reservoir intervals with a gross true vertical thickness of 12 feet (4 meters) and 169 feet (52 meters). Sterling reported that although hydrocarbon shows were encountered in both reservoirs, the sandstones have an average porosity of less than 10% and it has not been possible to confirm if the sands are hydrocarbon-bearing and in pressure communication with the original Cladhan discovery. Once operations are completed at well 210/30a-4z, the Transocean Prospect semisub will drill a second sidetrack well 210/30a-4y. This well will drill into the shallower, central channel to the south. It is expected that this sidetrack will take about 25 to 30 days, subject to weather or operational delays. The operator expects to drill two more sidetracks from this well location; one to test the central channel to the south of, and up dip up of, the previous well, and then a second sidetrack location somewhere close to the current rig location. Sterling expects that both these wells will add additional understanding of hydrocarbon distribution in the Cladhan field.

EnCore Successfully Appraises Cladhan well
Type: Appraisal Operations

Apr. 2011 - EnCore Oil said the Cladhan appraisal well has confirmed both the presence of a large oil column in the main Cladhan reservoir as well as a new hydrocarbon bearing reservoir sequence. The appraisal well was drilled as a deviated well to a total measured depth of 12,252 feet (3,734 meters), encountering oil bearing Upper Jurassic sandstones in two separate reservoir intervals. No oil water contact was observed. The well has proven a minimum hydrocarbon column of more than 1,200 feet (366 meters). Once drilling is completed at well 210/30a-4, the Transocean Prospect semisub will drill a sidetrack well 210/30a-4z to evaluate the Upper Jurassic sandstones to define oil water contacts for both the upper and lower reservoir units, as well as investigating the potential for thickening of the upper unit. The operator expects the sidetrack to take about 20 to 25 days. The Cladhan field is located on Blocks 210/29a and 210/30a in the UK sector of the North Sea in a water depth of 1,634 feet (498 meters).

Valiant Farms-Out Cladhan Stake in UK North Sea
Type: Acreage Acquisition

Mar. 2011 - Valiant Petroleum has signed a series of agreements to farm-down and swap part of its interest in two blocks in the UK sector of the North Sea. The company has entered into agreements with Sterling Resources, Wintershall and Agora Oil and Gas relating to its 100% interest in Blocks 210/29c and 210/30b which contain the Cladhan South prospect, located directly to the south and east of the existing Cladhan discovery. Under the terms of the agreement, Valiant will reduce its 100% stake in the license while Sterling, Wintershall and Agora Oil and Gas agree to pay for expenses related to drilling the site to own stakes in the Cladhan South license. Sterling Resources will become operator of the license and Valiant Petroleum will downgrade its interest to 30%. Valiant will also grab a 40% stake in Sterling-operated Blocks 21/30f and 22/26c, located in the Central North Sea. Furthermore, Sterling is seeking a rig slot for the second half of 2011 in order to drill Cladhan South as part of its exploration and appraisal program in the area. The Cladhan field is located on Blocks 210/29a and 210/30a in the UK sector of the North Sea in a water depth of 1,634 feet (498 meters).

Cladhan Flows at a Stable Rate
Type: Appraisal Operations

Sep. 2010 - Testing operations on the Cladhan appraisal well, 210/29a-4z, flowed at a stable rate of 5,903 bopd for more than 13 hours through a 28/64-inch choke with a final wellhead pressure of 1,874 psi. The flow rate was restricted by the capacity of surface facilities. Sterling Resources, operator of the field, has indicated that with larger 4.5-inch completion tubing, they estimate that the well can produce more than 15,000 bopd. The testing has confirmed light oil with a gravity of about 34 degree API and a gas oil ratio of 245 scf/bbl. Once testing is completed, the well will be plugged, and a sidetrack down dip southeast of the discovery well will be drilled by the J W McLean semisub to figure out the oil water contact in the field. Sidetrack operations will commence later this week, which should take about two weeks. Once the oil water contact is established, the operator can define the size of the Cladhan accumulation. The Cladhan field is located on Blocks 210/29a and 210/30a in the UK sector of the North Sea in a water depth of 1,634 feet (498 meters). Sterling Energy, holding a 39.9% interest, operates Cladhan; Wintershall holds 33.5%; Encore holds 16.6%; and Dyas holds the remaining 10% interest.
