Project Description
Discovered in 2001 by Chevron, Blind Faith is located on Mississippi Canyon Blocks 696 and 695 in the Gulf of Mexico. Chevron, the operator, holds a 62.5% interest, and Kerr-McGee holds a 37.5% interest.

In June 2001, the Blind Faith discovery well encountered more than 200 feet (61 meters) of net pay in Miocene sands at depths of 20,900 feet to 24,300 feet (6,370 to 7,407 meters). Following the discovery, an appraisal well was drilled in 2004, which confirmed the previous findings. The field has an estimated gross resource potential exceeding 100 Mmboe.

Field Development

Following the discovery, an appraisal well was drilled in 2004, which confirmed the previous findings. The field has an estimated gross resource potential exceeding 100 Mmboe.

Field Development

The field is developed by the Blind Faith semisubmersible platform, 160 miles (257 kilometers) southeast of New Orleans, La. Moored in 6,500 feet (1,981 meters) of water with production wells in 7,000 feet (2,164 meters), Blind Faith's topsides weigh more than 7,000 tons (6,350 tonnes) with two production facilities and two main processing decks. The facility has a total displacement of more than 40,000 tons (36, 287 tonnes), with an overall height that is comparable to a 29-story building.

FMC Technologies Inc. received a $39 million contract to supply the subsea systems for Blind Faith, including three high-pressure, high-temperature subsea trees and associated structures, production control systems, and other related equipment.

Expro's Subsurface Systems business unit provided electro-hydraulic deepwater safety systems to support Blind Faith during its commercial life.

Subsea 7 installed flowlines, including the associated pipeline end terminations (PLETs) and pre-laid steel catenary risers (SCRs).

Aker Kvaerner delivered an advanced dynamic umbilical, including engineering and project management. Aker Kvaerner Subsea supplied 31,168 feet (9,500 meters) of dynamic steel tube umbilical, including all surface and subsea terminations that are installed in 6,890 feet (2,100 meters) of water.

Gulf Island Fabrication constructed the topsides for the Blind Faith platform.

Aker Kvaerner also received a contract to provide the engineering, procurement, construction, transportation and installation of the semi-submersible hull and mooring system with the chartered construction vessel BOA Sub C. This development utilized Aker Kvaerner's deep draft semi-submersible (DDS) concept, which was conceived specifically for the application of steel catenary risers in the ultra-deepwater and current-heavy Gulf of Mexico environment. The contract value of the hull and mooring system totaled US $120 million.

Production

Production of Blind Faith commenced Nov. 1, 2008. Daily production is expected to peak at 65,000 bopd and 55 MMcf/d (1.6 MMcm/d) for the next several months.
